There was no quorum, so unless taken up and approved during previous meetings, some of what transpired during this meeting will be discussed again, and tabled for votation, at our next meeting, which will be held at Andy and Thelma Velbis= home in Chula Vista on Sunday (not Saturday), July 18, 2004.

Letty Sales, treasurer, said prayer.

1)         Changes to 5/22/04 Meeting:

Latest additions to the Baguio City Association are Fred and Cyd Gallardo

Treasurer=s Report - Per correction of Letty Sales, balance as of February >04 should have been $2,236.90.

From Fred Gallardo - Reminder re. Congratulatory Letter to elected Baguio City Mayor Raul Yaranon from our Baguio City Assn.  Lillian said a Congratulatory Card had already been sent.

2)         PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY - by Lillian Ares, president

Baguio City Association received a Certificate of Appreciation for the Association=s participation in the June 12 Independence Day parade, signed by Aurora Cudal, COPAO president; Normita Atangan, Philippine Faire executive coordinator; and Narios Idos, Philippine Faire parade committee chair.

Edith Donaldson took note about Letty Bustria having recruited 6 to 8 women from the Mountain Provinces, with costumes,  to join the Baguio City Assn. group in the parade. Vina Phelps will write a Thank You letter for Lillian to sign as Association president, and will be sent to those volunteers via Letty Bustria.

On June 13, 2nd day of the Philippine Independence Day celebration, Lillian received a plaque  in behalf of the Baguio City Association at a Recognition Night.  Plaque was presented to our Association president by Philippine Ambassador to the United States  Albert del Rosario, assisted by Consul General Marciano Paynor, Jr. of the L.A. Philippine Consulate, and Aurora Cudal, president of the Council Of Pilipino-American Organizations (COPAO). We received this plaque because of the projects we=ve had that have benefitted people in the Philippines, such as books to schools and needy students, scholarship, etc.

3)         CAMPING ON SEPT 18 & 19, RANCHO CORRIDA.

Lillian said we need to submit names of those who will join this camping to Romy Fayloga, at least, two weeks before the camping takes place.  According to Lillian, anybody under age 14 who wishes to join the camping needs to be accompanied by an adult.

It was also reported that Lillian had asked our treasurer, Letty Sales, to pay our $40 share of the $80 reservation fee; the Knights of Columbus who will be camping at the same time will pay the other half.

Next question needs to be verified by next meeting: Is Rancho Corrida a public or private camping ground?

4)         SCHOLARSHIP: Thelma Velbis inquired about our scholarship program.  Cris Ares said that Fernando Madriaga will report about this when he returns from his trip to the Philippines.

5)         FUNDRAISERS:

Beauty Contest  - Thelma Velbis says this is kind of late for this type of fundraiser, that if we decide to do this, we should be discussing it by the start of the year.

Other suggested fundraisers are: Jam Session& Karaoke Night.   People can dance while some others can be in a Karaoke contest.  Should be a crowd-drawer.

Casino Day

Christmas Carolling - this had raked up money for our Association in the past years, said the president.

Sell yellow T-shirts with Baguio City inscribed on it.  Letty Sales will check this out.

6)         BAGUIO CITY DAY POTLUCK PICNIC

This is set for August 28, 2004.   Thelma Velbis and Edith Donaldson are in agreement that we can also raise funds on Baguio City Day, during the picnic, that this has been done in the past.

At this juncture, Vina Phelps asked if BCASDC has been registered for this year,  if this is something we do every year, or if one report to the State should do it. Thelma thought that in registering an association, we might need registration forms, and submit the new set of officers, and bylaws.

Fred Gallardo suggested we check this out in the Internet, under ACalifornia Dept. of Corporations.@ He volunteered to do it.

Andy Velbis will chair the committee for our picnic, co-chaired by Audie Amaranto.

7)         CHRISTMAS PARTY

Set for Dec. 4.  Thelma Velbis will chair Christmas Party Committee, with Vina Phelps as co-chair.  Andy Velbis volunteered to take charge of selecting DJ.

How much do we charge per person since this can also serve as a fundraiser?  Suggested charge $30 or $40 per person since hotels don=t charge cheaply now.

At this point, Fred Gallardo asked if our parties need to be held in hotels, if we have ever tried a non-hotel setting - like a restaurant?  He said that some of the restaurants would charge a minimal fee (compared to a fancy hotel) for a 4 to 6-course meal, and and still hope for better results when it comes to fund-raising purposes.  When asked if he can recommend any such restaurant for our Christmas Party, he suggested Ly=s Restaurant on University Avenue, which can accommodate 200 to 300 people. This restaurant, he said, also has a stage and parking.

Lillian will check out Ly=s Restaurant asap since we are running short of time.

8)         FINANCIAL STATEMENT - By Letty Sales

As of June >04, we have a bank balance of $1,918.90; a total of $101.65 for petty cash.

9)         DEATH AID:  Connie Damasig=s son has passed away.  With approval of president, Letty gave Mrs. Damasig the amount of $50 (the amount we ordinarily give if relationship between officer/member and deceased is very close).

Lillian said that any financial donation from our Association must be given in the form of a check.

10)       NEXT MEETING, JULY 18 - Pura will be out of town by the July meeting.  Andy & Thelma Velbis volunteered to open their doors for our meeting.  Bear in mind, though, that meeting at the Velbises is on a Sunday, not Saturday the way we ordinarily do. Please calendar this, your attendance is important, your ideas for what=s good for our Association are important, and are always welcome.
